Impact on SMEs (6th Open Call)
Especially SMEs lack sufficient funds to develop the internal capabilities to transition to circular business models. Bringing the ISO 59000 family of standards in line with European policies and regulations makes it not just easier to fulfil legal requirements but to also go beyond short-term requirements and gain a competitive advantage by transitioning to circular business models.
Impact on SMEs (8th Open Call)
In particular, SMEs often lack sufficient funds to develop the internal capabilities necessary for transitioning to circular business models. Harmonizing the work in CEN/TC WG 2 and WG 4 and ensuring compatibility with European policies and regulations makes it easier to not just fulfil legal requirements but to also go beyond short-term requirements and gain a competitive advantage by transitioning to circular business models.
Impact on society (6th Open Call)
Transitioning to a circular economy has profound societal impacts by promoting sustainability, resource efficiency, and economic resilience. It fosters a reduction in waste and pollution, which enhances environmental quality and public health. By encouraging businesses to design for longevity, repairability, and recyclability, it creates new job opportunities and stimulates innovation across industries. Additionally, it empowers communities to engage in sustainable practices and reduces dependency on finite resources. Overall, a circular economy nurtures a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient society, aligning economic activities with long-term environmental and social well-being.

Description of Activities

By integrating ZTA, the project allows for more secure, scalable, and flexible access control mechanisms, which are crucial for the protection of sensitive data and systems against evolving cyber threats.

Fellow's country
Impact on SMEs (5th Open Call)
This fellowship project significantly impacts European SMEs and societies by enhancing cybersecurity in critical infrastructures through the standardisation of ACaaS. By integrating ZTA, the project allows for more secure, scalable, and flexible access control mechanisms, which are crucial for the protection of sensitive data and systems against evolving cyber threats. This approach reduces potential data breaches and security incidents, promoting a safer digital environment.
Impact on society (5th Open Call)
My project aligns with the EU's ICT Rolling Plan, emphasising the enhancement of cybersecurity and the development of a resilient, secure digital infrastructure. By focusing on advanced AC techniques rooted in ZTA, the project supports the EU's commitment to integrating ZTA principles into critical infrastructure.

Big Earth Data are a critical asset for understanding and managing our planet. A tsunami of data has to continuously be stored, extracted and analysed by experts. All these need to have the same understanding of the data, requiring clear concepts and guidelines. Thanks to StandICT.eu2026, I was able to work on the development of a datacube standard. This will contribute to a better understanding of the data and, ultimately, of our planet.

This NIST MDKP PWG GAFB Standard being developed for the New Ecosystem on Multi-Domain Knowledge Planes Driven Networking Era in 5G & 6G presents a tremendous opportunity for the adoption and use of global standards developed in Europe by ETSI in the USA market to steer commerce and open up new collaborations opportunities between USA and Europe stakeholders for commerce and innovation of services and GANA KP Platforms products by industrial players in these markets. This also has the effect of strengthening Europe's position in global standardisation initiatives thanks to the adoption of ETSI standards in the US for global reach and use outside Europe. Stakeholders benefit as follows: Telecommunications network operators/CSPs, Private Enterprises, Government Institutes, SMEs, or Research Institutes can expose network capabilities for use by other authorised parties when available within certain times for specific incentives (e.g., monetisation of the resources usage).
Impact on society (6th Open Call)
The following objectives of the NIST MDKP GAFB Specification provide unique Use Cases for 5G, 6G and Future Networks:
“Requirements for Enablers for Cross-Industry Sectors End-to-End (E2E) Services Innovation and Delivery Agility” that facilitate the leveraging of dynamic resources and assets availability in various sector domains when they are discoverable for use in dynamic on-demand network(s) and differentiated connectivity services formations; and/or application-layer service innovation, composition and delivery using the newly formed networks and connectivity services or ones already available such that they can serve the needs of the targeted application layer service(s).
New ecosystem on Cross-Industry Sectors End-to-End (E2E) Services Innovation and Delivery Agility (i.e., coined the “MD_KPs_Feds_For_5GnB ” Ecosystem) in which ETSI GANA Knowledge Plane (KP) Platforms (based on the ETSI TS 103 195-2) as Distributed Open Platforms (DOPs) that enable federated Autonomic/Autonomous Networking (ANs) should play role as anchors for the ecosystem, together with DOPs on the higher level, namely: Service Federation Orchestration & Autonomic Management & Control Platforms that dynamically place demands for differentiated and federated network connectivity services on the GANA (KP) Platforms.

This NIST MDKP PWG initiative presents a tremendous opportunity for the adoption and use of global standards developed in Europe by ETSI in the USA market to steer commerce and open up new collaborations opportunities between USA and Europe stakeholders for commerce and innovation of services and GANA KP Platforms products by industrial players in these markets. This also has an effect of strengthening Europe's position in global standardisation initiatives thanks to the adoption of ETSI standards in US for global reach and use outside Europe. A New Ecosystem is emerging from the NIST Specifications which have potential to reduce Carbon Emissions, thanks to Nework Sharing.

The main challenge is that some industry players dominate national bodies and want to promote their own product by making contributions to the industry standard.

Impact on SMEs (2nd Open Call)
Standardised biometric data formats enable interoperability and exchanging system components like biometric capture devices, algorithms, storage systems. This is of relevance for SMEs who typically provide only a single component rather than an entire solution like industry leading large corporations – which sometimes may rely on proprietary data formats.

Impact on SMEs (5th Open Call)
The interoperability achieved with this standard helps particularly SMEs who typically provide only a single component to a BSoC while larger corporations could provide an entire solution which may be proprietary.
Impact on SMEs (7th Open Call)
The standard promotes Biometric System-on-Card architecture, characteristics and interfaces. It is a technology that improves security and privacy for citizens in Europe and beyond, because personal data remains on a personal card. The interoperability achieved with this standard helps particularly SMEs who typically provide only a single component to a BSoC while larger corporations could provide an entire solution which may be proprietary.
Impact on society (2nd Open Call)
Biometric user authentication is present in many applications, including not only smartphone usage but also banking, national ID, healthcare and border management. Citizens in Europe and beyond benefit from the use of open standards in civil and governmental applications allowing transparency, privacy and guaranteed level of service.

Impact on society (7th Open Call)
Technology for Biometric System-on-Card (BSoC) has advanced significantly since the first publication of the ISO/IEC 17839 series from 2014-2016. This made an amendment of part 2 necessary in 2021 and a revision started 2022/2023. The major gaps are that the currently published standards partially refer to outdated technology and do not cover many recent industry developments in the field of BSoC. This includes enrolment methodologies, sensor and card manufacturing, but also processes and usage of biometric cards. The priority is to consider all inputs from national bodies, come to a consensus and progress the standard series according to the ISO business plan. Challenges are divers inputs from industry delegates targeting different solutions. It is important to include all contributions from national bodies while keeping the timeline mandated by the ISO business plan.
