Currently, many open-source tools for evaluating AI environmental impacts are emerging, but they lack a standardized methodology. This standard will help harmonize these independent efforts, ensuring that measurement tools and practices become more robust, scientifically sound, and comparable.
Europe is already a global leader in sustainable AI. I noticed it during the ISO sustainable AI meetings. I believe this standard will give European SMEs a competitive advantage. It will allow them to compete fairly and secure market access in call for tenders and public procurement. I hope this standard will protect European innovation and limit greenwashing.
