ETSI TR 103 468 V1.1.1

Speech and multimedia Transmission Quality (STQ); Quality of Service aspects for 5G; Discussion of QoS aspects of services related to the 5G ecosystem

SCOPE

The present document summarizes the results of an analysis of the impact of the upcoming 5G on existing QoS metrics, and the question if extensions or modifications of the portfolio of QoS parameters portfolio are required to capture respective properties of 5G.

The analysis starts with a summary of features and properties of 5G which can be expected to be relevant for QoS assessment.
The first question addressed is if there are features of the 5G roadmap - as far as technically stable as of the time of publication, or reasonably stable projections - which constitute new services which would then require new sets of QoS parameters. The second question is in what way projected 5G properties may require adaptations with respect to measurement methodologies, computation, or usage of existing QoS parameters.

This ETSI TR would be very useful to consider in the very important topic that is being introduced into 5G Requirements and Standards, namely the topic of Autonomic Management and Control (AMC) of Network Slices. Part of AMC is Autonomic QoS and QoE Management, by which Closed-Loop (Autonomic) Operations dynamically tune QoS parameters across network segments and E2E Slices in order to achieve SLA and QoE objectives, e.g. for eMBB Slices. The ETSI GANA Standard ETSI TS 103 195-2 has defined the autonomic manager components responsible for autonomic QoS Management, called QoS Management Decision Elements (DEs). The ETSI 5G PoC Program under TC INT/AFI WG, has produced two Technical White Papers that touch on Autonomic QoS Management (White Paper No.1 of the ETSI 5G PoC and White Paper No.3 of the ETSI 5G PoC) that are downloadable from this 5G PoC URL: https://intwiki.etsi.org/index.php?title=Accepted_PoC_proposals
