ABOUT StandICT.eu

The Digital Single Market (DSM) is aimed at boosting Europe’s competitiveness throughout multiple industrial and service sectors.  Five priority domains are highlighted as the building blocks of the DSM: 5G, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, Cybersecurity and Big Data. The emergence and continuous evolution in these domains compels the establishment of common standards to guarantee interoperable and benchmarked services and technologies to drive the DSM, keep markets open, support innovation and allow a full-service portability.  StandICT.eu analyses how to bolster EU’s presence in these domains and importantly, the business impact of digital transformation on industry & consumers in strategic sectors such as eHealth, smart energy, intelligent transport systems & advanced manufacturing.

StandICT.eu, “Supporting European Experts Presence in International Standardisation Activities in ICT”, addresses the need for ICT Standardisation and defines a pragmatic approach and streamlined process to reinforce EU expert presence in the international ICT standardisation scene.  Through a Standards Watch, StandICT.eu will analyse and monitor the international ICT standards landscape and liaise with Standards Development Organisations (SDOs) and Standard Setting Organisations (SSOs), key organisations such as the EU Multistakeholder Platform for ICT Standardisation as well as industry-led groups, to pinpoint gaps and priorities matching EU DSM objectives. These will become the topics for a series of 10 Open calls focused on priority domains and a continuous cascading grants process, launched by StandICT.eu from March 2018, providing support for European specialists to contribute to ongoing standards development activities, and attend SDO & SSO meetings.

Through the analysing and monitoring process of activities in the EU and globally, over its 24 month work plan, StandICT.eu will provide a Go-To-Platform for the Open Call applications and evaluation, support prioritization of standardisation activities and build a community of Standardisation experts to support knowledge exchange and collaboration and reinforce European presence in the international ICT standardisation scene through 3 structured steps:

1) Monitoring and gathering information on the on-going work from the relevant international and global SDOs;
2) Setting up, managing and facilitating an open call designed to support the participation and contribution of EU specialists in key SDOs;
3) Creating positive impact on business and research opportunities from ICT standardisation.

We encourage an open inclusive dialogue, thinking globally and acting locally, to consolidate a trajectory of the ICT standardisation landscape that looks beyond 2020, engaging the right people to boost EU excellence in standards development! An influential Expert Advisory Group (EAG) and External Pool of Evaluators (EPE) support the project’s rigorous activities.

WHO WE ARE

TRUST-IT SERVICES (Project Coordinator)

Fraunhofer SCAI

Trust-IT is a UK SME specialised in research analysis & communication in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as well as the development & implementation of innovative web & mobile applications across Europe and globally. In recent years it has turned its expertise into developing tools and services for smaller companies in the areas for cybersecurity and providing free, online tools for making cloud computing easier for novices especially.

Founded in 2002, Trust-IT’s central asset is a highly-skilled, dynamic, international team that performs quality ICT market research and result-oriented stakeholder communication and engagement strategies, working closely with SMEs, government and research institutions.

Trust-IT is committed to drive forward new ideas, pinpoint market opportunities, create multi-stakeholder partnership and build international networks and communities. It has gained expertise in the ICT priority areas identified in StandICT: Cloud computing, 5G, IoT, Cybersecurity and Data. Trust-IT covers both the technological and human interaction aspects and creates innovative business models & exploitation plans.

Trust-IT is a prime mover in bringing global, ICT communities together and has a long-lasting, deep knowledge of conducting user experience analyses with stakeholders, as well as contributing to innovation projects and standardisation initiatives.

Inside the context of international cooperation synergies, Trust-IT has also established pluriannual relations with members from NIST (US) & fostered the discussion between the 5G-ENSURE project and NIST (July 2016) with NIST collaborators who are evaluating the relevant standards for the 5G-ENSURE security enablers, in particular those proposed by NIST. Trust-IT manages impeccable global relations and has been instrumental in relations between the US relations within 5G-ENSURE with the PICASSO project as well as developing key leads from the 5G!PAGODA project within the EAG.

The Company has vast experience in co-ordination of EC-funded CSA initiatives, as well as in roll-out of sustainability activities for organisations involved in innovation efforts, with a focus on market uptake, see for instance the initiative RDA Europe (http://europe.rd-alliance.org/) on data-driven innovation, and its effort in development and promotion of Cloud Computing Tools and Services for SMEs (e.g., www.cloudwatchhub.eu ; www.picse.eu; www.sla-ready.eu). Trust-IT actively participates to EC-policy discussions on cybersecurity and is a founding partner of the WISER “Wide-impact cyber security risk framework” (www.cyberwiser.eu) initiative (2015-2017).
